The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana (BCBSLA) aims to promote the wellness and well-being of Louisianians by supporting projects and programs for health- or education-related causes.
Proposals addressing the following topics are of interest:
Health - BCBSLA wants to partner with organizations that focus on improving public health, reducing barriers to care for the uninsured, or conducting research to prevent or cure disease. Particular consideration is given to organizations that address specific populations, such as those in rural areas, children, seniors, or those who are at risk and underserved;
Education - BCBSLA wants to sponsor programs that help local friends and neighbors learn ways to stay healthy and make wise decisions about their healthcare. Education-related programs are those focused on health literacy, the training of medical professionals, or the education of young people age pre-kindergarten through college.
Nonprofit Capacity - Proposals to improve a nonprofit organization’s overall effectiveness will also be considered. These “capacity-building” proposals should address important management or governance issues that can be handled with a small amount of money in a short period of time. Examples could include organizational assessment, board/staff development, program evaluation or information technology
The BCBSLA Foundation has two signature programs that focus on improving the wellness and well-being of Louisiana children:
Smart Bodies - provides schools with grades K-5 with an interactive education program designed to prevent childhood obesity; and
The Angel Award - an annual statewide recognition program that awards funds to outstanding Louisianians working to improve the quality of life for the state's children
