This program area is seeking to develop a statewide data-driven, evidence-based policing strategy for Michigan's drug enforcement and prevention efforts. The strategy must include effective and economical responses to drug enforcement efforts at the state and local levels.
The Michigan Intelligence Operations Center (MIOC) will be responsible for establishing a process of collecting information that relates to drug activity, and researching and evaluating the collected information to determine if the information is credible. The MIOC will reach out to state and local law enforcement to identify common trends, links between drug manufacture/distribution, as well as identify criminal organization members and identifiers. Analysts will provide priority drug case support to the 22 multi-jurisdictional teams and other agencies. Analytical products may include reports relating to significant increases or decreases in drug use or distribution, bulletins identifying concealment methods, manufacture methods, product labeling, and drug trafficking organization operation methods. A statewide assessment will be created and disseminated no later than April first on an annual basis. The MIOC will adhere to the standards as provided through the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts, as well as the MIOC Analytical Standards.
The objective of this program is to provide law enforcement and prevention personnel with evidence-based information for strategy development and deployment of resources. Address emerging developments related to the trafficking and use of illicit substances of abuse, the non-medical use of controlled prescription drugs, and the laundering of proceeds generated through illicit drug sales.
